Kill Lice in 10 Seconds, PART TWO
This is where it gets interesting for you! Why?
Because we decided to make a head lice treatment that actually works!
Why did we think we could do that?
Because previously, we owned an Organic Farm. We had experience killing bugs without using poison.
We figured with what we knew, plus with our contacts in the industry, we could come up with a really good head lice treatment.
So, after our personal "Head Lice Nightmare" my husband Peter started doing some research.
(He's really good at that...plus, he had just been laid-off his job and had some time.)
I'll let him tell his part of the story...
Hi.
I'm Lisa's husband Peter.
After Lisa and I finally finished battling the head lice in our home, I was a "Man on a Mission!"
I was determined to figure out a solution to the problem.
I knew that if we could find something that worked, we could turn it into a product and maybe create a business out of it.
(Since I had just been laid off, I needed to find something to do to support my family.)
So I started with what I already knew about killing bugs without using poisons and chemical pesticides.
In addition, I did a ton of research on the Internet.
And finally, I hired the services of a PhD chemist who specializes in the use and formulation of essential oils.
The over-arching principle guiding my research was the creed that doctors are supposed to live by: "First do no harm."
I wanted whatever we came up with to be safe enough that any mother or father could put the product on their cherished infant baby with no possibility of harming that child.
The other principle guiding me was that the product HAD to be HIGHLY effective. IT HAD TO WORK!
MY QUEST...
So my quest was to come up with the MOST effective head lice treatment that was as ALSO as safe for your skin as pure water.
Here's a video commercial we made back in the early days down in our basement with Lisa and me demonstrating the safety and effectiveness of the LiceKiller oils formula by rubbing them on our new baby and then killing some bugs...
Lice are too small so we used crickets to demonstrate
how safe and effective our formula is.
THE SMELL
By the way, as I progressed into the formulation project, I came up with a third goal: to make it smell good or at least not smell bad.
To make a long story short, I discovered that there are three essential oils that kill insects (including head lice and so-called "super lice") EXTREMELY well.
Two of them smell quite bad while one doesn't.
Fortunately, I also discovered that there are some other essential oils that REPEL insects and actually smell wonderful!
THE WINNER: AN ESSENTIAL OIL "COCTAIL"
In the end, the PhD chemist and I came up with a formula of essential oils that is a coctail of all three killing oils plus the sweet-smelling repellant oils.
We had the "Magic Formula" that actually worked the best.
It is the strongest yet safest natural head lice treatment we could devise and it also has a pleasant aroma.
And wanting to give it a name that said what it does, I named it: LiceKiller.
I know, not very original, but you know what it is immediately, don't you?
THE STORY OF THE ENZYMES
Anyway, along the way during my research I discovered another kind of natural substance that kills bugs: ENZYMES.
The nice thing about enzymes is they are water-based. That means you can use them on clothes, bedding, furniture, carpeting, cars and baby seats with no fear of stains.
Also, I found out that the enzymes have some other benefits.
They eliminate odors.
They remove stains.
They kill bacteria.
So here was something VERY interesting...a special kind of enzyme that can dissolve or digest an insect's exoskeleton as well as the glue that lice use to attach nits to hair!
Wow! A Nit-Glue Dissolver!
The only negative thing about enzymes is that they are not as fast-acting as the oils.
So I ended up with two very valuable formulas: an oil-based, fast-acting, head lice killing formula and a water-based, glue-dissolving, exoskeleton-digesting formula.
With these two formulas, I put together the products.
But first I had to think about the TWO BIG PROBLEMS people have when they get head lice...
